Brothers of Eban

Eban (eh-ban): an African word describing an Adinkra symbol, which stands for fence, protection, support and security. Brothers of Eban is a new program of the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (MAPP). It is a multi-session, skills building and social/support network intervention, designed for and by African American men who have sex with men (MSM) in the Detroit Metropolitan area.

This cutting edge program is funded by the Michigan AIDS Fund. The goal of Brothers of Eban is to enable HIV-positive African-American MSM to adopt behaviors that will reduce their sexual risk-taking, thereby reducing the transmission and acquisition of HIV. The program will also address issues of sexuality, relationships, dating, disclosure, medication and other HIV related health issues.

Though its focus is with HIV-positive men MSM, the intervention is inclusive of all African American MSM, including those who are HIV-negative. It is hoped that participants will learn, support and grow from each other as they complete the program.
