Midwest
AIDS Prevention Project Testing and Counseling Announced
Contact: Bree Moore, 248-545-1435
MAPP has announced a new program. Michigan Department of Community
Health (MDCH) sponsored HIV (antibody) testing and counseling will
be starting in February. Most of the testing and counseling will take
place in gay bars and at community and pride events. However, testing
will also be available at the MAPP office in Ferndale by appointment.
MAPP is located in the Community Pride Building, 429 Livernois St.
in Ferndale.
MAPP received the follwing from a recent test client and we wanted to share it with you.
I just wanted to thank you and your organization for the professional service that I received with respect to my HIV/AIDS testing.
Finally realizing that the process was painless, I was left wondering why people refuse and/or ignore to get tested. The answer was simple.....fear.
It seems as though that people are afraid to know what the "results". I knew that I was not a "high-risk" candidate but, I still had that "fear". And, I covered that "fear" with "confidence" by telling myself......"You are safe. You have been quite select on the women that you decided to pursue relationships with in the past."
Now, the HIV/AIDS test has changed my life beyond belief. How? I have been motivated to "tell" my friends to get tested and to "prove yourself right". Why? The reason is simple you (they) need to know. It is about being mature and responsible. It is about accepting your manhood and womanhood 100% regardless of who you are, your religion, your age or your sexual orientation.
And, it has taken my spirtuality to another level so as to tell anyone...."I love my life. I got the test."
Thank you
